Share

For centuries, translation has been central to intercultural communication, but it is only in recent years that its significance in shaping culture has begun to be studied in depth. The aim of this conference is to explore the role of translation in fostering, promoting, protecting and connecting the different cultures of the world in the context of multiculturalism and globalization.

The second annual graduate student conference in Translation Studies is to be held at Glendon College, York University, on Saturday, February 5, 2011. This one-day bilingual event will include a series of individual presentations and a panel discussion. Our keynote speaker is *Hugh Hazelton*, Professor of Spanish at Concordia University and winner of the Governor General’s Award for Translation, who will be discussing the role of translation in the promotion of Hispanic culture in Canada, and of Canadian and Quebec culture in Latin America. Participating in the panel will be Professor Ian Martin (moderator) and Aurelia Klimkiewicz from Glendon, Professor Hugh Hazelton, Professor Salah Basalamah from University of Ottawa, and Professor Helen X. Wu from University of Toronto.

Please register on the conference website: http://www.glendon.yorku.ca/colloquium/2011/english
