York will be hosting the first ever TEDxYorkU event at Glendon on Saturday, November 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is looking for applications to participate as an audience member.

TED is a knowledge organization which holds an annual conference, inviting some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers to share what they are most passionate about.  “TED”, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, also has a hugely popular website which has become a real hub for “ideas worth spreading.”

Based on the popular TEDTalks event, TEDxYorkU will feature dynamic presentations by academic, business, political, student, and community leaders, all connected to York.  Each will explore the theme of CTRL-ALT-DELETE, the ubiquitous computer command also called the “three finger salute.” Speakers and participants will be asked to ”reboot”  their way of thinking as the event aims to explore how starting over is often the best way to discover something new.

Confirmed speakers include:
- Paul Alofs – York graduate & President and CEO, Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation
- Dalton Higgins – York graduate & Hip Hop Historian
- Poonam Puri – York Professor & Expert in Financial Markets
- Helen Papagiannis – York PhD Student & Augmented Reality Specialist.

Further information and the most up-to-date developments can be found at the TEDxYorkU website.

Glendon students, faculty and staff are invited to apply to attend by filling out an online application form. The deadline for applications is October 22nd.

TEDxYorkU is supported by York University Alumni, Student Community & Leadership Development at York University and Glendon Campus, York University.
