Dionne Brand is celebrated, both in Canada and internationally, for the high caliber of her poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. She will give a reading at Glendon on January 30, 2012 from 4:30-6pm in the Senior Common Room (York Hall, 3rd floor). She has also garnered considerable respect for her political essays on race, sexual orientation and social inequalities. Among many other prizes Dionne Brand has received the Governor General's award, the Trillium award, the City of Toronto Book Award, the Harbourfront Festival Award, and just last year, the Griffin Poetry Prize. In 2009 she was the poet Laureate for the city of Toronto. Her poetry is innovative, lyrical and often politically informed. She is also a spellbinding reader and performer. Dionne Brand currently teaches in the School of English and Theatre Studies at the University of Guelph.
