About the Memorial
Just about a year ago, Daniel Simeoni, Graduate Program Director, MA in Translation - our colleague, professor, friend and mentor - passed away. He had just founded the Research Group on Translation and Transcultural Contact and was working enthusiastically on developing a PhD program in Translation Studies, while working on various research projects and publications. His death put an end to a promising career and deprived us of a great colleague and friend.
As Michelet said: "Chaque mort laisse un bien, un petit bien, sa mémoire, et il demande qu’on la soigne." (Every death leaves behind a little legacy, a memory, and demands that we look after it.)
It is precisely to share his memory and to acknowledge his intellectual legacy that Glendon and the School of Translation are inviting you to a memorial on Thursday, November 6th at 7:30 p.m. at the Glendon Gallery. Guests, colleagues, friends and students are invited to join us to honour Daniel. Among them, Michael Cronin (Dublin City University), Alexis Nouss (Cardiff University), and Sherry Simon (Concordia University). Montreal artist Boris Chukhovich will show a PowerPoint presentation on Daniel’s "La traduction visuelle des concepts en sciences humaines."
Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Daniel Simeoni's most important works, prizes, projects, and some photographs will be exhibited at the Gallery. Speeches will start at 8 p.m. in GH102. A reception will follow.
